The story of Lambretta in Great Britain is an interesting one. The UK was one of few places where Innocenti’s tube-framed Lambretta scooters briefly actually outsold the earlier pressed-steel Vespa. The men behind this success were father and son team Peter and James Agg. Undaunted by the Lambretta’s mixed reception when it arrived in 1949; they took a risk by buying several hundred machines while at the same time securing the concession into Britain.

Formed in 1951, Lambretta Concessionaires used clever marketing and studious levels of after-sales care to convert the British public into lovers of the Lambretta. During the 1960s the company showed the way forward for the industry despite the booming popularity of the car. The considerable influence of the Aggs at Innocenti cruelly taken away from them at the beginning of the 1970s the Lambretta unexpectedly ceased production.Over a twenty year period, Lambretta Concessionaires undoubtedly changed the lives of the British public for the better. This is their story, as told by Stuart Owen, former scooter sprinter and owner of 100mph Lambretta Club. The publication contains over 100 previously unpublished photographs and official documents, many sourced from Stuart Lanning’s Lambretta Museum in Weston Super Mare.
